See you in the dirt !

IT was a great weekend at Smith Creek.

I arrived on Friday at noon and managed to get in 102 miles on the newly redone Cl. 3 boat before the sun went down.

It had rained pretty hard on Thursday night and the surface was a little soft but otherwise pretty smooth. The wind came up around 1 on Saturday and by the end of the day the south end of the lake had dried and I was able to sail around the cow a couple of times and got another 70 miles on the boat.

As usual that end of the lake is smoother than anything I have ever seen, I mean it is like glass, you gain at least 10mph as soon as you hit it.

The event was really well attended with around 100 people there. Many were there for the final time before the worlds tuning up their boats and getting more familiar with the ever shifting winds.

The wind was the usual thing up and down and back and forth. On Friday the shifts were around 25 degrees so you really have to pay attention or you can really sail a lot more distance when you trying to get somewhere.

We laid out the outline of the camp so when the containers and tent arrive they know where to go.

I would like to remind everyone that is getting there early that the tent and other stuff will be arriving around Tuesday before the event.

So if you arrive early and set up your camp in one of these spots you will be asked to move, also when setting up camp remember ALL your stuff must remain behind the line of camp, not just your camper.

We encourage people to arrive early (Monday or Tuesday) we can use the help setting up.

Mike Grimm, Glenn Barclay and Glenn Monahan will be there to set up the camp so go to one of them to find out where the stuff is going so you can figure out where to set up.

The time is getting close and the excitement and anticipation are building daily.

There is a huge number of people that are really excited about this event and they are looking forward to meeting new people and the thrill of international competition, I am one of these people.

Now I have a 6 weeks to organize the final push to the event and to work on my boat.

      See you in the dirt,
